People of the Street
This body of work shifts focus from the seafront to the streets, exploring the presence—and often absence—of connection in shared public space. Figures are captured in moments of awkwardness, reflection, or routine. I've adopted expressive brushwork and an earthy palette to focus not on likeness, but on mood and movement.
The street becomes a place of accidental theatre — fleeting encounters and layered gestures. There’s humour here, sometimes pathos, always empathy.

Drawing from observation has continued to be an integral part of my practice. These quickly rendered oil sketches were worked up from sketches in books or on scraps of paper (also quickly rendered) made in cafes, in pubs, on benches, on street corners and in shops. I have always been intrigued by the theatricality of the seemingly ordinary. I'm drawn to the way our external appearance is reflective of our personality and its intricacies.
